Linux IT
When people use computers the most common operating system that they will use to go about their day to day tasks is Microsoft Windows, however there are other options out there and some people decide to opt for something else.
Another operating system comes in the form of Linux, a system which is governed under the GNU General Public Licence, meaning that it is free for people to obtain and use on their personal computer. It is also highly adaptable and easy to use, which is why it is the main alternative to Windows, being used by many people and embraced by some PC producers.
It was developed back in 1991 by Helsinki student Linus Torvalds, originally as a hobby. It is doubtful that he could have foreseen the kind of effect that it would have on the world of computing. It is not only highly popular for computer users as an alternative to Windows; it has also laid down the foundations for many other operating systems which have been based on it.
It also has some similarities to other operating systems such as UNIX, which dates back to 1969 as well as BSD, which is also based on the 60s system.
